How to play Pintdle
Pintdle is a free daily game about bar drinks. One puzzle a day, the same for everyone.
There are two ways to play: The Pool Table is the full game, about five minutes; Just a Tipple is a quicker 5-round go. The rest of this page walks through The Pool Table in detail. Just a Tipple's the same idea, just shorter.
1. Cast a couple of votes
Every Pintdle opens with two pairs and one question: which would you rather buy? There's no wrong answer, because you're voting. Your votes feed the scores that other players have to guess in the rounds that follow, which keeps the game running on real opinions.
2. Play the 15 rounds
Then the guessing starts. Each round shows two real drinks with the venue, the country and the price someone paid. Pick the one you think more people would buy. The card flips, you see both scores, and you move on.
3. How the answer is decided
Every drink has a would-buy score: the share of head-to-head votes it has won from players who have seen it. The drink with the higher score wins the round. Pairs only go into a puzzle when the scores are far enough apart to have a clear answer.
Your score and your streak
You get a score out of 15, shown next to the day's average across everyone who played. Play on consecutive days and your streak climbs. Miss a day and it goes back to zero. The next puzzle arrives at midnight, your local time.
Sharing your result
When you finish, the Share button copies a small grid of green and red balls, one for each round you got right or wrong, plus the puzzle number and date. It doesn't show the drinks, so it's safe to post.
A few tips
- Read the whole card. The venue and the price matter as much as the drink itself.
- Familiar drinks in familiar places tend to win.
- Cheap is appealing, but so is a good drink somewhere nice.
- Trust the photo. A drink that looks good usually polls well.
Questions
Do I have to vote before I can play?
Yes, two quick pairs at the start. It's what keeps the scores honest: every guess you make later is measured against numbers other players set the same way.
Can I replay a Pintdle?
No. One go per day, per device. Miss a day and that puzzle is gone, and your streak restarts from the next one you play.
What counts as the right answer?
The drink with the higher would-buy score from players' votes. Pairs that are too close to call don't get used.
Does the price or the country matter?
Often. A cheap pint in a beer garden and a fifteen-pound cocktail in an airport get judged very differently. Read the whole card.
How do you stop people cheating?
The answer to a round is never sent to your browser until you've committed to it, so it can't be read early. Each device gets one play a day, votes are rate-limited, and a device that keeps breaking the rules gets blocked.
